Hunt for suspects in New Orleans police shooting

NEW ORLEANS -- New Orleans police are looking for suspects involved in shooting of an off-duty officer Sunday night, reports CBS affiliate WWL.

The incident occurred just before 8 p.m., police said, when Derek Frick, who had recently been named a commander in the force, was driving to his father's home in an unmarked unit. An SUV pulled up alongside and someone fired into Frick's vehicle, striking him in the neck, police said.

Bystanders came to his aid and brought to him to the hospital, where he was believed to be in stable condition.

"Doctors tell us that at this time they don't think it's life-threatening," New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu said, according to the station.

Police said they are looking for a brown or gold-colored SUV, likely a GMC or Chevy. They said the vehicle, which contained several occupants, had dark-tinted windows.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at 822-1111. The reward for information leading to an arrest or conviction has been doubled by Crimestoppers to $10,000.
