How Prince George spent his first birthday

It was a party fit for a future king, down to the royalty on the guest list.

Prince George of Cambridge's first birthday was celebrated Tuesday with a small gathering at the Kensington Palace home of his parents, Prince William and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge.

Kate's family -- parents Carole and Michael Middleton and siblings Pippa and James -- was all there, as was William's brother Prince Harry, according to reports. But the guest of honor (aside from the birthday boy, that is) was Queen Elizabeth II, who arrived by car at 4 p.m. and reportedly stayed at her great-grandson's fete for about 50 minutes.

Some of George's seven godparents were also said to be in attendance, including William's cousin Zara Tindall (with husband Mike Tindall and their daughter, Mia) and former private secretary Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, as well as Kate's longtime friend Emilia Jardine-Paterson.

The queen also reportedly saw little George earlier in the day, when Kate took him to Buckingham Palace that morning to see his great-grandfather, the Duke of Edinburgh (who couldn't attend the party due to work commitments).

George's other grandparents, Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, also missed the party - they are in Scotland this week on an official visit.

On the eve of George's birthday, his parents released a statement thanking everyone "for their warm and generous good wishes to George and our family" during their son's first year.
