House fire tragedy in upstate New York

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Six people were killed in a house fire here early Friday, reports CBS Syracuse affiliate WTVH-TV.

Firefighters said they were alerted after neighbors reported hearing an explosion, and they arrived at the scene five minutes after the initial call went out.

Firefighters tried to enter the home through the front door but had to retreat when the fire caused the roof of the porch roof to collapse.

Flames were so intense it took crews 30 minutes to put them out.

Fire officials say they found six people inside once they were able to enter. Four of the victims were found upstairs, two downstairs.

One woman was able to escape the fire and was taken to a hospital.

The fire's cause was under investigation.
