Holly Bobo murder, kidnapping charges for Tenn. man
DECATUR COUNTY, Tenn. - A 29-year-old Tennessee man has been charged with kidnapping and murdering long-missing nursing student Holly Bobo, officials announced Wednesday afternoon.
A grand jury indicted Zachary Adams on Wednesday with especially aggravated kidnapping and first-degree felony murder. He is being held at the Chester County Jail without bond.
Adams was arrested Friday on an unrelated assault charge as his home was searched in connection with the Bobo case. In the unrelated case he is accused of holding a gun to a woman's head at his home Feb. 6 and threatening to "gut" her with a knife, reports CBS affiliate WTVF.
Adams had not been named as a suspect in Bobo's disappearance until now.
Bobo was 20-years-old when she disappeared from her home in Parsons, Tenn., about 110 miles southwest of Nashville, in April 2011. Her brother told police he saw a man in camoflauge leading her into the woods surrounding the family home.
Investigators said the search warrant executed at Adam's property late last week was among several in surrounding counties.
Investigators would not comment on what led to the charges against Adams, but at least two vehicles were reportedly towed away from the property Friday and a cadaver dog was brought in to aid in the search. Officials would not say whether Bobo's body has been located.
In explaining the charges against Adams, District Attorney General Hansel McCadams said the grand jury felt there was enough evidence to prove that Bobo was "forcefully taken from her home without her consent" and "killed in the perpetration of that kidnapping."
Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Director Mark Gwyn said the investigation is ongoing and officials have not ruled out other arrests and indictments. Gwyn asked anyone with information in regards to the case to come forward.
"Hopefully this is the beginning of closure for the Bobo family and they deserve that," Gwyn said.
Adams is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday, March 11.
