Hillary Clinton to speak on improving economic opportunity for black families
In a speech in New York on Tuesday, Hillary Clinton will call for new investments in job creation, criminal justice reform and equal pay for women of color as part of a commitment to achieving economic equity for African Americans, according to a campaign aide.
Clinton will deliver the speech at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture in New York. Her remarks, which come as both she and opponent Bernie Sanders are vying for the minority voters who play a big role in the early-voting states coming up, are aimed at exploring how the barriers that hold back African American families can be broken down.
In order to deal with racial injustice, Clinton will call for measures that go beyond reforming our criminal justice system, and she will talk about the need to confront the systemic racism that interferes with or deprives African Americans of economic opportunity.
Clinton is also scheduled to meet with civil rights leaders on Tuesday morning, including Al Sharpton, in New York ahead of her speech.
