Hillary Clinton raises $143 million in August for campaign, Democratic Party

Hillary Clinton’s summer fundraising swing paid off: she raised a total of $143 million in August for her campaign and the Democratic Party, the campaign announced Thursday.

The money raised includes about $62 million specifically for Clinton’s campaign, as well as $81 million for the Democratic National Committee and state parties. Clinton’s campaign now has more than $68 million on hand, and the Democratic Party—through the Hillary Victory Fund and the Hillary Action Fund—have a combined $84 million on hand.

According to the campaign, the average donation in August was about $50.

Clinton’s haul comes just weeks after campaign manager Robby Mook sent a memo to top-level donors warning that GOP nominee Donald Trump “could outraise us” now that he had started fundraising in earnest. Clinton raised $90 million total in July, compared with Trump’s $80 million.

“Donald Trump also had his best fundraising month of the campaign, raising $80 million,” he wrote to donors, asking them to step up their game. “This was far more than anyone expected—and should be a wake-up call to all Hillary supporters.”

Clinton had spent August picking up the pace of her own fundraising appearances, headlining 37 fundraisers—including several high-dollar ones in the Hamptons that brought in nearly $20 million. Her running mate, Tim Kaine, headlined another 32 fundraisers, and former President Bill Clinton and other top surrogates also appeared at finance events.

Trump has not yet released his fundraising totals for August.
