Clinton blasts Trump for “degrading, insulting and assaulting women"
DADE CITY, Florida -- Hillary Clinton said on Tuesday that she’s been a public servant, a wife, a mother and a churchgoer for the past thirty years. And as for her opponent? Clinton said he’s “spent a lot of time demeaning, degrading, insulting and assaulting women.”
At an outdoor rally at a college here, with a week to go before the election, Clinton lambasted her opponent for mistreating and making lewd comments about women and cast him as a dangerous example for children across the country.
“I learned way back in elementary school and I learned it in Sunday school: it’s not okay to insult people,” she said. “It’s not okay. And look at what he does. He calls women ugly, disgusting, nasty, all the time. He calls women pigs, rates bodies on a scale from one to ten.”
As she has when it comes to national security and the economy, Clinton turned Trump’s own words against him, drawing from what is now a deep well of reports about his past behavior.
She went on: “This is who Donald Trump is. This is how he speaks. This is how he thinks. This is what he does. Now it’s time for all of us to stand up and say this is not who we are.”
“Oh my gosh, we heard that tape,” she said, referring to an “Access Hollywood” tape of Trump from 2005. “We heard what he does to women. I’m not going to repeat it. But you know what Donald Trump is bragging about. Grabbing women.”
She continued: “He’s also on tape bragging with the radio personality Howard Stern about how he used to go backstage at his beauty pageants and he would barge in on women while they were getting dressed. He said he did that to ‘inspect’ them. That was his word.”
She spoke about former Miss Universe Alicia Machado, who introduced Clinton at the event, and her experience publicly battling Trump about her weight.
“I mean, really,” Clinton said. “Can we just stop for a minute and reflect on the absurdity of Donald Trump finding fault with Miss Universe?”
The Clinton campaign is also releasing a new television ad on Tuesday to run in battleground states which highlights Trump’s past comments about women. Here’s the ad:
Timed to complement Clinton’s remarks in Florida, the “What He Believes” ad features a clip of video and audio of “Access Hollywood” tape from 2005 in which Trump says that he can “grab” women because of his celebrity. It’s the first time the Clinton campaign has used both the video and the audio of the tape in a television ad.
