"High School Musical" actor accused of pointing gun at officers

BOSTON - A 21-year-old actor who appeared in "High School Musical 3" and other films is facing charges along with an underage teenager after Boston police say someone shot at officers who were responding to a report of gunfire Tuesday night.

Authorities say the young actor - Justin Martin - pointed a gun at them as he tried to flee a Dorchester neighborhood where they had heard shooting.

Prosecutors said a 17-year-old boy now facing gun charges is suspected of shooting at the officers. No one was hurt.

In court Wednesday, defense attorney Lawrence Kelly said Martin has acted in 20 movies and has no record of violence. He said Martin denies the charges. Martin pleaded not guilty to assault and firearms violations. His bail was set at $35,000.

The teen's juvenile court bail was set at $150,000.

IMDB.com says Martin appeared in the 2012 Denzel Washington movie "Flight."

CBS Boston reports Martin is from Georgia but currently resides in Los Angeles. His mother lives in Massachusetts.
