HBO cancels "Vinyl" despite second season order

Despite having already ordered a second season, HBO has apparently had enough of its '70s rock drama, "Vinyl."

The cable network announced Wednesday that it had pulled the plug on the series, which chronicled the turbulent New York music scene of the 1970s and was executive-produced by Martin Scorsese and Mick Jagger.

"After careful consideration, we have decided not to proceed with a second season of 'Vinyl,'" a statement from the network read. "Obviously this was not an easy decision. We have enormous respect for the creative team and cast for their hard work and passion on this project."

Shortly after the series premiered in February, HBO announced that it had ordered a second season despite low ratings and less-than-stellar reviews, though co-creator Terence Winter -- a writer on "The Sopranos" the the creator of "Boardwalk Empire" -- had already left the show.
