J.K. Rowling's "Harry Potter" spinoff to be a trilogy

Potterheads, get your wands and wizard hats ready! J.K. Rowling's adaptation of her "Harry Potter" wizarding textbook, "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," is going to be made into a trilogy with the help of Warner Brothers.

Rowling has agreed to pen the three films, in partnership with WB CEO Kevin Tsujihara, according to The New York Times. Details are scant on the films, and while casting and release dates are still a mystery, we do know they'll take place seven decades before the start of Harry Potter's story, and will follow "magizoologist" Newt Scamander -- who is not related to the Potter family but is part of the wizarding world in general.

"'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' is neither a prequel nor a sequel to the Harry Potter series, but an extension of the wizarding world," Rowling wrote on her Facebook page in September. "The laws and customs of the hidden magical society will be familiar to anyone who has read the Harry Potter books or seen the films, but Newt's story will start in New York, seventy years before Harry's gets underway."
