"Hamilton's" Lin-Manuel Miranda may join "Mary Poppins"
"Hamilton" creator Lin-Manuel Miranda is in talks to join Emily Blunt in Disney's "Mary Poppins" sequel.
Miranda may play a lamplighter named Jack, a character similar to Bert, who was portrayed by Dick Van Dyke in the 1964 film, reports Variety.
It was reported last week that Blunt may play the title character, but this "Poppins" won't be a reboot. Instead, it will be a sequel that picks up 20 years later in Depression-era London and follows the magical nanny's continued adventures with the Banks family. The movie will take story lines from P.L. Travers' books focusing on Poppins' continued adventures with the Banks family.
John DeLuca and Marc Platt will serve as producers on the film with "Into the Woods" director Rob Marshall directing the film. Marshall will also produce.
Miranda may help develop new songs for the Poppins sequel as well. He worked with Disney and helped them compose music for "Star Wars: the Force Awakens" and their upcoming animated tale "Moana."
