"Hamilton" cast ends Thursday night show with Prince tribute dance party
Tributes to Prince began pouring in quickly Thursday following news of his death, with countless individuals, organizations and institutions looking to do his memory justice.
On Broadway, the cast of "The Color Purple" went with a rousing rendition of "Purple Rain," but nearby at "Hamilton," Lin-Manuel Miranda had something a bit crazier in mind.
"There's one more thing we'd like to say before we go," Miranda said during the hit show's curtain call, as seen in a video posted to the show's Facebook page. "We lost a giant today, so today..." Then, amid audience applause and a swelling organ, he began the opening narration to Prince's hit "Let's Go Crazy."
When the song kicked in, the cast broke out into a joyous, impromptu dance party as the audience took over singing the lyrics.
