Halloween party shooting in Phoenix leaves one dead, one injured

PHOENIX -- One person was killed and at least one other was injured when gunfire erupted at a massive Phoenix-area Halloween party, reports CBS affiliate KPHO.

Police told the station that they arrived at the party after 4 a.m. Sunday after receiving a 911 call about shots being fired. A 24-year-old man was shot and pronounced dead at the scene, but his name was not provided, according to law enforcement.

Another victim, a teenager, had injuries to his lower body. He was brought to a local hospital and is expected to recover, according to KPHO.

As many as 400 people were reportedly in attendance for the party in a large lot near 67th Avenue and W. Van Buren Street. By the time police arrived, many party-goers had driven away.

Officers then secured the area and were in the process of identifying and interviewing possible witnesses.

A police officer also told KPHO that both the motive and the weapon used remain unknown.
