Grandma attacked, robbed of tax refund outside Walmart

DENVER - Police are searching for two men who attacked and robbed a grandmother after she cashed a tax refund check at a Walmart in Denver, reports CBS Denver.

The two men approached Elmeania Lamprey, 70, outside the retail giant on Monday afternoon. She had just cashed her refund and was walking back to her car, reports the station.

"Evidently this guy, he was watching me," Lamprey said.

The woman says she believes the men were targeting her and waited until she was alone outside the store before they grabbed her, beat her and stole her entire refund -- $4,800 in cash.

Police said surveillance video shows a man in a red hat watching and following Lamprey out of the store before he grabbed her from behind.

"He grabbed me, hit me across my head," said Lamprey. "Pretty sure he kicked me."

The man grabbed an envelope she was carrying, which contained the cash.

Police believe the man then got into a black SUV driven by another man in a blue shirt and sped away, reports the station.

Lamprey said as time passes she is less angry with her attacker -- but she does want justice.

She is bruised but not seriously injured.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Denver police at (720) 913-2000.
