GOP committee chairman calls on Donald Trump to release tax returns

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, said Wednesday that Donald Trump should release his tax returns.

“If you’re going to run and try to become the president of the United States, you’re going to have to open up your kimono and show everything, your tax returns, your medical records,” the Republican said on CNN’s “The Lead.”

“You’re just going to have to do that, it’s too important. So both candidates, Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, should show both their medical records and tax returns, absolutely,” he added.

Don’t count on seeing those records soon, though.

On Sunday, Trump’s new campaign manager Kellyanne Conway reversed her position that he should release them while under audit

In April, she told CNN that Trump should make them “transparent,” but she told CNN on Sunday, “So now that I’m on the inside, I know something I didn’t know then. He’s under audit. He’s said completely, when audit is completed, he will release.”

Trump’s longtime adviser Roger Stone, on the other hand, said Monday that the GOP presidential nominee should release the returns.

“Yes, I think he should release his tax returns immediately,” Stone told 610 WIOD Miami’s Fernand Amandi Show.

Conway didn’t close off the possibility that a more comprehensive medical report on her candidate could be released, though. On MSNBC’s “The Rachel Maddow Show,” Conway was asked about whether Trump should release his medical records -- “Perhaps,” she said.
