Girl Scout cookie-seller's cell phone stolen

DAVIE, Fla. – Two people robbed a Girl Scout selling cookies outside a Ft. Lauderdale supermarket store Sunday, and now police are studying surveillance footage to find the suspects, reports CBS Miami.

After 8 p.m. Sunday, two males approached a Girl Scouts table that had been set up at a Ft. Lauderdale Winn-Dixie to sell cookies. At the table, 10-year-old scout Zaley Eisenmann was sitting with her head down because she didn't feel well. She says the men snatched her cell phone, and possibly some cookies, too.

“Everyone was ducking (down) and no one was looking so they snatched [the cell phone], grabbed it and ran off,” said Eisenmann.

"It takes your faith out of people, you know?" said the girl's mother, Kim Eisenmann-Byerly. "Why would they do something like this? It's heartbreaking."

Zaley Eisenmann was unsure if the thieves stole any cookies. "We're pretty sure they did, but we're going to count," she said. "I'm just glad I'm safe."

Police searched the area following the robbery, but didn’t find the suspects, or Zaley's phone.

“We are grateful that the girls and their mothers were unharmed, and appreciate the quick response of local law enforcement,” said Lisa Johnson, Vice President of Marketing for the Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida, in a statement. “The outpouring of support from the community has been especially heartwarming.”

A description of the two males has not been released. Police are  reviewing surveillance footage.
