Ga. murder suspect arrested, released after giving false name

RICHMOND COUNTY, Ga. -- Deputies say they have inadvertently released a man wanted for murder after he was arrested for disorderly conduct, reports CBS affiliate WRDW.

According to the sheriff's office, on Oct. 30, a man who identified himself as Alphonso Bray was booked into the Richmond County jail for disorderly conduct. The charge, which did not require fingerprinting while being booked, only needed for him to make bond, according to the station.

However, deputies say the man was required to submit a fingerprint while leaving jail the next day. The scan came back identifying him as Terrance Brown, who is wanted on a grand jury arrest warrant for murder in nearby Burke County.

Law enforcement apparently did not notice the discrepancy, according to WRDW. The Richmond County Sheriff's Office is currently reviewing its procedures and has launched an internal investigation into the release.

Family members reportedly identified Brown after his picture was published in a local paper under the Bray alias.

The Richmond County Sheriff's Office is now working with the Burke County Sheriff's office as both agencies are actively seeking Brown, reports the station.
