George Zimmerman's alleged shooter has bond revoked
SANFORD, Fla. - A man accused of shooting at George Zimmerman during a traffic encounter has had his bond revoked and is heading to jail.
A judge on Friday said Matthew Apperson should be jailed because he was charged with committing a new crime while out on bond in connection with the shooting involving Zimmerman - the former neighborhood watch leader acquitted two years ago in the death of Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black 17-year-old.
Police say the new charge, made against Apperson last month, stemmed from him urinating on a neighbor's door. Apperson has denied the accusation.
In May, Apperson was charged with attempted second-degree murder after allegedly firing a gun into Zimmerman's car in Lake Mary.
Zimmerman was not injured in the shooting.
Prosecutors contend Apperson had a fixation on Zimmerman, and a Lake Mary police report alleges Apperson has mental health issues. Apperson, however, has maintained he fired at Zimmerman because Zimmerman pointed a gun at him as they were driving.
Zimmerman was acquitted of murder in 2013 in the Sanford, Fla. shooting death of Trayvon Martin. The case sparked protests and a national debate about race relations.
