George W. Bush and Laura Bush adopt a puppy

Former President George W. Bush and former first lady Laura Bush have adopted a puppy from an animal shelter.

They adopted the puppy, named Freddy, last Tuesday -- Election Day. The former president shared the news on his Instagram account, saying the family’s cats, Bob and Bernadette, are already getting along with the newest member of their family.

In the White House, the Bushes had three dogs -- Spot, an English Springer Spaniel and two Scottish terriers, Barney and Miss Beazley. Spot died in 2004, Barney died in 2013 and Miss Beazley died in 2014.

Besides a new puppy, Bush is keeping himself busy by painting.
