George R. R. Martin says "Game of Thrones" ending will be "bittersweet"
"Game of Thrones" fans will be relieved to hear that George R. R. Martin plans to end the series with a "bittersweet" tone.
When asked if he planned to end the series in a "horrible apocalypse," Martin told the New York Observer that was not his plan, though he has not written the ending yet.
"That's certainly not my intent," he said. "I've said before that the tone of the ending that I'm going for is bittersweet. I mean, it's no secret that Tolkien has been a huge influence on me, and I love the way he ended Lord of the Rings. It ends with victory, but it's a bittersweet victory."
He continued: "But every time I read it I understand the brilliance of that segment more and more. All I can say is that's the kind of tone I will be aiming for. Whether I achieve it or not, that will be up to people like you and my readers to judge."
Martin also said in the interview that now is the "Golden Age of Television" and that he is a huge fan of "The Knick."
One thing Martin does not appreciate? Clickbait.
Martin complained that a web publication twisted his words from his blog about Comic-Con and wrote a headline that said he "didn't miss" the event, when he meant precisely the opposite in his blog post.
