George Clooney to appear in "Downton Abbey" charity sketch

Clooney, meet the Crawleys.

George Clooney is set to appear in a "Downton Abbey" sketch filmed for a charity special on the British network ITV, according to multiple reports.

The special, called "Text Santa," will air at Christmas. The actor-director will reportedly play an American character who is a guest at a wedding at the Crawley estate.

Clooney, 53, is reportedly a fan of "Downton Abbey" and became friends with star Hugh Bonneville (who plays the Earl of Grantham) when they worked together on "The Monuments Men."

Earlier this year, rumors swirled that Clooney and his fiancee, Amal Alamuddin, were considering Highclere Castle (the English estate where "Downton" is filmed) as a potential venue for their upcoming wedding. But now it seems that may have been when he filmed the sketch for the ITV charity special -- and, Clooney recently revealed, he and his bride-to-be are getting married in Venice, Italy.
