Fred Armisen to lead Seth Meyers' "Late Night" band

Seth Meyers will be getting a little help from one of his "Saturday Night Live" colleagues when he begins hosting "Late Night."

Meyers announced Monday that Fred Armisen will be joining him as the show's bandleader.

He shared the news on Twitter, with a photo of the "Portlandia" star and the rest of the 8G Band.

Armisen will "curate and lead" the band, Meyers added, and "will continue to run it even when he's off shooting 'Portlandia.'"

Armisen was a drummer for the punk group Trenchmouth in the late 1980s and played background drums for The Blue Man Group in the mid-'90s. He left "SNL" last year, but returned for Meyers' final episode on Feb. 1.

Meyers' tenure on NBC's "Late Night" begins Feb. 24 (with fellow "SNL" alum Amy Poehler as his first guest), while Armisen's "Portlandia" will air its fourth season on IFC starting Feb. 27.
