Army base in Va. locked down after active shooter report

PETERSBURG, Va. - A U.S. Army base was on lockdown Monday morning due to an active shooter incident.

A notice posted on Fort Lee's Facebook page reads: "An active shooter incident has been reported on Fort Lee at CASCOM HQ, Bldg. 5020. All personnel should enact active shooter protocols immediately. The installation is being locked down until further notice."

Within the hour the "all clear" was issued by the Fort Lee installation operations center. "The law enforcement event is over," the message read.

CBS News national security correspondent David Martin reports that one person was wounded.

The base's Public Affairs Office stated that there was a report of a female soldier with a gun inside the Combined Arms Support Command Headquarters building at approximately 9 a.m. today. Early reports indicated that the soldier had the weapon on herself and fired once, injuring herself.

The PAO said she was transported to the Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center. Her condition is unknown.

Special Agents from the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command are on scene.

All gates at the base were reopened except for one on Lee Avenue.

FortLee, located about 30 miles from Richmond, is home to the Combined Arms Support Command, and is the Army's third-largest training site.
