Fort Carson shelter in place lifted; 1 injured, officials say

An incident forced the closure of gates at Fort Carson on Thursday, according to CBS affiliate KKTV in Denver.

KKTV reported the gates closed around 4 p.m. local time. Late Thursday evening the shelter in place order was lifted and all gates and facilities have reopened. Fort Carson also reported that a suspect is in the custody of Fort Carson law enforcement.

The shelter in place order has been lifted at Fort Carson and all gates and facilities are open. A suspect is in the custody of Fort Carson law enforcement and the incident is under investigation.

In an earlier Facebook post, Fort Carson reported a shooting in the center of the installation. One individual was injured and in stable condition, Fort Carson said.

Fort Carson said there wasn't an active shooter, but all personnel were required to shelter in place and all gates were closed to traffic while the situation was being investigated.

Fort Carson is located about 65 miles north of Denver.
