Deputies said they were investigating a report of a loud banging noise coming from outside someone's bedroom window around 10:30 p.m., when they first encountered Anthony Fennick, 20. The man allegedly asked deputies why there were there, and thanked them for their work, according to the sheriff's office.

"Soon after, however, Deputy Austin Chewning noticed a potato cut in half landed in the roadway behind another deputy's patrol car," the department wrote in a statement posted to its Facebook page.

"Then as the deputies were talking, an egg struck the front passenger side door of Deputy Chewning's vehicle, nearly striking him and another deputy," according to the statement.

Deputies began searching for the food-thrower, and soon noticed three more eggs, broken on the road.

Fennick was question and an egg was allegedly found in his front left pocket.

The deputies said they went to Fennick's home, questioned his parents, and then examined a carton of eggs. They noted it was missing five, "which equaled the four eggs tossed at deputies and one egg found in Fennick's pocket."

Case cracked.

Two bags of potatoes were also on the kitchen counter, according to deputies, allegedly along with a serrated knife.

Fennick faces charges of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, criminal mischief and loitering/prowling.
