Flight attendant vanishes after quitting job, leaving airport on foot

NEW YORK -- Family and investigators are searching for a New York City flight attendant they say vanished after quitting her job and leaving LaGuardia Airport on foot, according to CBS New York.

30-year-old Sierra Shields, of Astoria, Queens, reportedly worked for the airline Shuttle America. She was last seen by her supervisor around noon Thursday, who said she quit her job and walked out, leaving her belongings behind.

Shields had reportedly spoken earlier in the day with her mother and father by phone.

"By the distress and everything that took place on Thursday, she was suffering through something," her father, Chris Shields, told the station.

Police are concerned the missing woman may be suicidal, the station reports.

Family has launched a social media campaign in an effort to find her. On a Facebook group entitled "Find Sierra Shields," family describes her as "an amazing person with the power to change the world."

Her father wrote in the Facebook group: "May our love for her overwhelm what could discourage us and help us to find her. This time isn't easy for any of us, may the love Sierra gave to each of us continue to fill us with hope and a zeal to love each other unconditionally. Sierra, please come home I miss my running buddy. May the spirit of God give us all strength."
