Five For Fighting writes new song for powerful "Hawaii Five-0" episode

Five For Fighting writes song for "Hawaii Five-0"

Five For Fighting's John Ondrasik knows exactly what he'll be doing the night of Nov. 7 -- watching the 100th episode of the hit CBS series, "Hawaii Five-0."

The singer-songwriter composed a song specifically for the reboot of the show, and the track, called "All For One," will debut in its entirety that night on CBS.

Executive producer Peter M. Lenkov provided Ondrasik with little background on the landmark episode's plot and asked him to write something that would reflect the family bond the characters share on the show. Before writing the song, Ondrasik went back to the original pilot to "see where this whole thing started" to get inspiration for the track, which will be heard as part of a scene montage.

"It makes it more fun..It's a different dynamic," Ondrasik said about being tasked to compose a song for the TV series. "When you have a song that's been on the radio, it's easy to build that emotional connection with the film or the TV show because people already have that emotional connection to the song. This is different....It comes at the very end of a powerful episode...It's a challenge, but it's fun for me. I like to do different things that are out of my comfort zone."

Now in its fifth season on CBS, the police procedural drama (a remake of the original that ran from 1968-80) follows the actions of a small special state task force created by the governor of Hawaii to investigate serious crimes. It stars Alex O'Loughlin, Scott Caan, Grace Park and Daniel Dae Kim.

"It's a special moment," said Ondrasik, known for his hit singles " "100 Years" and "Superman (It's Not Easy)." "Not many shows get here [to 100 episodes]."

"Hawaii Five-0" airs Fridays at 9 p.m. ET. Go here to listen to a preview of "All For One."
