Father of slain Dallas officer Patrick Zamarripa begs for peace

Father of Dallas shooting victim speaks

Five officers died during an ambush on officers in Dallas during a peaceful protest on Thursday night.

Senior Corporal Lorne Ahrens, Sergeant Michael Smith, Brent Thompson, Officer Michael Krol, and Patrick Zamarripa all leave behind heartbroken friends, family, and loved ones.

One of those loved ones is Zamarripa's father, Rick.

"I would always text him if something happened, when a police officer gets shot. I say, 'Are you okay?' He'd text me right back," Zamarripa said.

But he knew something was wrong when his son, a Navy veteran, didn't text back on Thursday night.

Relatives of wounded in Dallas police ambush speak out

"I wish everybody could just get along. It doesn't matter whether you're black, white, green, or purple ... this has to stop. My son paid the ultimate price to take care of people."

Patrick Zamarripa was also a husband and father to a two-year-old daughter.

"He'll never get to see her graduate. Get married, have kids, become a granddaddy. Hopefully, God willing, he'll give me the strength to live to be able to see that one for him."
