Family: Suspect acted strangely before toddler's murder
LAKEWOOD, Colo. -- Relatives say a man acted strangely in the weeks before he was charged with killing his 2-year-old cousin, who was found strangled with a cord inside a plastic storage bin.
Court documents released Monday show Roman Morales told his mother he killed Donnie Romelo Romero. Romero was found unconscious in a storage bin inside a suburban Denver apartment on Sept. 21. Police say an electrical cord had been wrapped around his neck.
Morales has been charged with first-degree murder and child abuse resulting in death. A public defender representing Morales did not immediately return calls seeking comment.
His relatives told police he had used meth in the past. His mother, Melissa Vigil, says he had been talking about the FBI following him, drones and hearing Morse code.
