Expect a "twisted" summer of "Big Brother"

When the new season of "Big Brother" gets under way next week, viewers can expect a few twists and turns on the series.

CBS announced Wednesday that not one -- but two -- houseguests will win the role of "Head of Household" each week -- meaning they will each receive a separate suite inside the house and have the responsibility of nominating two fellow houseguests for eviction. And for the first time on the series, landing a Head of Household spot won't guarantee one's safety in the game.

With the second twist, fans will have the chance to weigh in -- and even influence -- the competition from home via an interactive "Team America" element.

Also new is "Battle of the Block," a high-stakes competition that could shift the power in the house each week.

"When the houseguests learn about the new twists, they will need to throw out any pre-existing strategy if they want to survive in the game," said Allison Grodner, executive producer of "Big Brother." "The new Battle of the Block competition will shake up the power in the house like never before. A houseguest can go from zero to hero, or vice versa, every week."

This year's houseguests will reside in an urban tree house-themed home outfitted with 76 HD cameras and more than 100 microphones, following nearly their every move. The winner will receive $500,000.

"Big Brother" will kick off with a two-night premiere on June 25 and June 26 on CBS. After that, the series will air Sundays at 8 p.m. ET and Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET. The live eviction show, hosted by Julie Chen, will run on Thursdays, beginning July 3 at 9 p.m. ET.
