"I almost died": Train attack hero recovering from stabbing

CARMICHAEL, Calif. - One of the heroes of the failed European train attack is still recovering after he was stabbed in Sacramento during a street altercation earlier this month.

Spencer Stone spoke with CBS Sacramento about the recovery process, which has now moved to his home.

"I almost died," Stone said, adding that the recovery has been brutal.

"It hurts all the time," Stone said.

He says very little about his attackers, but revealed that he spent almost a full day sitting with detectives to work on the suspect sketches released Saturday.

They are the same suspects seen in dark surveillance video stabbing him four times, after what Stone calls a rare night out in Midtown Sacramento.

His neighbors tell CBS Sacramento they're pulling together for him.

"I think that shouldn't happen again and [I] don't like people getting hurt," Carolin Ruzici said.

Stone said he's on extended military leave, at least for the next 60 days. But he says he can't wait to be back.
