Elon University football player dies after fall from UNC dorm, officials say
CHAPEL HILL, N.C.-- Elon University junior wide receiver Demitri Allison died Wednesday after falling from a dorm on campus at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Elon officials said, CBS affiliate WRAL reported.
Law enforcement officials said Allison died after falling from the 10-story Morrison Residence Hall. Allison had left Elon Tuesday, and teammates, friends and family had asked police to look for him because they were concerned for his well-being, Elon officials said.
Elon University tweeted Wednesday night that the campus was mourning his loss.
The University released a statement on its website. In it they said that Allison was the son of Mark and Lisa Hartman of Cornelius, N.C. He was majoring in management and was a wide receiver on the Elon football team.
"Everyone associated with Elon athletics is devastated," said Athletics Director Dave Blank. "Demitri was a talented young man with a bright future who was loved by his teammates. We mourn his loss deeply and we pray for his family and loved ones."
