At final rally, Trump frames Election Day as middle class rebellion

Trump makes final pitch to voters in five-state blitz

Donald Trump and his advisers believe they are on the cusp of victory, and that an unexpected surge of Election Day voting can and will turn the tide in their favor, reports CBS News correspondent Major Garrett. In the campaign’s final days, one state has emerged as the surprise centerpiece of the fight for 270 electoral votes: Michigan.

“There’s no place I’d rather be for my last rally, right here in Michigan,” Trump said Tuesday in Grand Rapids.

At a midnight rally in the usually-Democratic state of Michigan, Trump framed today’s election as a middle class rebellion.

“Today the American working class is going to strike back, finally,” Trump said.

Basking in the glory of his last campaign rally, Trump squeezed in his most popular campaign shtick one more time.

“I just want to ask you one question, if you don’t mind at one o’clock in the morning. Who is going to pay for the wall?” Trump asked.

“Mexico!” the crowd yelled.

“100 percent,” Trump said.

In New Hampshire, Trump claimed he secured an endorsement from New England football legend Tom Brady.

“He called today and he said, ‘Donald, I support you, you are my friend and I voted for you,’” Trump said.

In Florida, where early vote totals have Trump backers encouraged, the candidate lightened the mood by reaching into the crowd for a flimsy likeness of himself.

“Nice head of hair, I’ll say that,” Trump said.

The move served as symbol for Trump’s closing argument: only he can unmask the Washington system his supporters have come to loathe.

“It’s time to reject a media and political elite that’s bled our country dry,” Trump said.

Florida, North Carolina and Ohio must form the foundation of every Trump victory scenario -- a setback in any of those three states spells defeat. Other states to watch: New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and Colorado. As for Trump, he will vote in Manhattan, and like the rest of the nation, await the outcome.
