Duchess Kate speaks out in PSA for children's mental health

Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, is standing up for childhood mental health awareness and support in a new video.

The 33-year-old royal recorded a PSA in support of the U.K.'s Children's Mental Health Week, which begins Monday.

"Both William and I have seen that many young people are struggling to cope with the impact of bullying, bereavement, domestic violence, family breakdown and more," Kate said, referencing her husband, Prince William. "Without support, the effects of these challenges can be traumatic, leading to serious issues such as anxiety, depression, addiction and self harm."

"We need to help young people and their parents understand that it's not a sign of weakness to ask for help," she added. "A child's mental health is just as important as their physical health and deserves the same quality of support."

The duchess released the video in association with Place2Be, a children's mental health charity that she has been patron of since 2013. This past November, she attended the group's first-ever Wellbeing in School Awards.

"Together, with open conversations and greater understanding, we can ensure that attitudes toward mental health change, and children receive the support they deserve," she said in the video.
