Dropped cigarette leads to New York driver's death
ROCHESTER, N.Y. - An 84-year-old Rochester-area man who suffered severe burns when a dropped cigarette ignited his clothes while driving has died.
The Democrat and Chronicle of Rochester reports that officials at Strong Memorial Hospital confirm that Christopher Flowers of Chili has died. Additional details of his death, including the date, haven't been released.
Police in the suburban town of Gates say Flowers was driving on the morning of March 9 when his clothing caught fire after he dropped a lit cigarette into this shirt. Flowers pulled over and got out of the car as his several layers of clothing burst into flames.
A man and two women pulled over and put out the flames that had engulfed his torso and head.
