Bear attack prompts officials to close hiking trails in Virginia park
MILLBORO, Va. -- A black bear attacked a woman at a state park in Virginia, prompting officials to close the park's hiking trails.
Virginia State Parks spokesman Jim Meisner said the woman was hiking with two dogs in Douthat State Park in Millboro when she was attacked from behind by the bear around 1 p.m. on Sunday.
CBS News affiliate WDBJ reports the woman suffered non-life threatening injuries to her legs and was able to walk to find help. She is expected to make a full recovery.
"We have had an incident involving a hiker and a bear," rangers posted on the park's website. "The incident is being investigated by DCR (Department of Conservation and Recreation) and DGIF (Department of Game and Inland Fisheries). Trails will remain closed until further notice."
Rangers spent Monday setting up traps and searching for the bear.
According to CBS News affiliate WTVR, there are no orders to kill the bear.
Douthat State Park is located about three hours from Richmond.
