Donald Trump to announce running mate Friday
The wait is almost over: presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump will announce his running mate on Friday.
Trump had indicated it would be just a matter of days before he made his decision. Senior Trump officials tell CBS News that the location for the event has not yet been determined.
Trump also previously said he planned to name his running mate before the Republican National Convention begins in Cleveland next Monday.
The confirmation of Trump's upcoming announcement comes barely an hour after Fox News and Newt Gingrich mutually agreed to Gingrich's suspension from the network as a contributor while he is the subject of VP speculation. Trump officials stressed to CBS News, however, that the Fox News announcement is not related to the Trump vetting process.
Besides Gingrich, who has acknowledged he is being vetted, other politicians on Trump's shortlist include New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, with whom Trump is campaigning Tuesday night.
