Trump will receive intelligence briefing late afternoon Wednesday
A law enforcement source tells CBS News Senior Producer Pat Milton that Donald Trump’s his first intelligence briefing will take place between 4 p.m. at 6 p.m. Wednesday at 26 Federal Plaza in New York, and he’s expected to bring along New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Lt.-Gen. Michael Flynn (Ret).
In an interview with Fox News’ Ainsley Earhardt Tuesday, Trump explained why he wants Flynn to join him for the briefing.
“I think he’s a great guy. I’ve gotten to know him. He’s been a real fan of mine and defender of mine and he’s a terrific guy, a terrific general — tough, smart -- feels like I do about illegal immigration, in particular,” Trump told Earhardt. “He wants to make sure the right people are coming into our country, not the people that we’re probably taking in right now.
On the day before he was to receive his inaugural intelligence briefing, Trump indicated that he didn’t think much of the work of the nation’s intelligence agencies when Earhardt asked him whether he trusts U.S. intelligence.
“Not so much from the people that have been doing it for our country. I mean, look what’s happened over the last 10 years,” Trump said. “Look what’s happened over the years. It’s been catastrophic. And, in fact, I won’t use some of the people that are sort of your standards, you know, just use them, use them, use them, very easy to use them, but I won’t use them because they’ve made such bad decisions.”
The CIA indicated in May that the intelligence briefings for the nominees of each party would begin after the nominating conventions in July.
