DOJ staffer erroneously uses official Twitter handle to call out CNN

Fallout from Melania Trump speech controversy

A Department of Justice press assistant mistakenly used the DOJ's official twitter handle to tweet out a snarky comment about Melania Trump and CNN on Tuesday morning, CBS News' correspondent Paula Reid reports.

The tweet, which described CNN as a "troll," was intended to be sent from the staffer's personal account and has since been removed, according to a Justice Department official. The official added that the employee's access to the Department's social media accounts have been revoked.

The content of the deleted tweet referenced accusations that Melania Trump plagiarized a Democratic convention speech originally delivered by First Lady Michelle Obama.

Following the error, the Justice Department said its Office of Public Affairs had already implemented procedural changes to the Department's social media practices, and plans to schedule additional social media training for employees, the official said.

CBS News' Legal Correspondent Paula Reid contributed to this report.
