Docs: Mother put newborn in refrigerator for hours, killing him

CHESTER, S.C. — A South Carolina woman is accused of killing her 4-day-old son in February by putting him in a refrigerator, reports CBS affiliate WBTV.

Angela Renee Blackwell, 27, was arrested Monday and charged with felony homicide by child abuse.

According to the arrest warrant, Blackwell was at her home on February 27 when she put her baby in the refrigerator and shut the door. Blackwell reportedly removed the infant after three hours, around 8:26 a.m., and sought medical attention.

The infant went to Chester Regional Medical Center where doctors pronounced the baby dead.

“The death occurred under circumstances manifesting an extreme indifference to human life,” the warrant states.

Blackwell faces 20 years to life in prison if convicted.
