Did Tony Soprano die in the finale of "The Sopranos"?

When the screen turned dark, did Tony Soprano live?

Fans of "The Sopranos" have been wondering ever since the hit HBO show ended in 2007 and viewers were left with Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'" in their heads for days.

Now perhaps we have an answer. Perhaps. A new in-depth article on Vox finds writer Martha P. Nochimson asking series creator David Chase on whether Tony Soprano died in the finale.

Chase's answer? "He shook his head 'no.' And he said simply, 'No he isn't,'" Nochimson writes.

Following the release of the Vox story, David Chase's representative, Leslee Dart, released the following statement: "A journalist for Vox misconstrued what David Chase said in their interview. To simply quote David as saying, 'Tony Soprano is not dead,' is inaccurate. There is a much larger context for that statement and as such, it is not true.

As David Chase has said numerous times on the record, 'Whether Tony Soprano is alive or dead is not the point.' To continue to search for this answer is fruitless. The final scene of THE SOPRANOS raises a spiritual question that has no right or wrong answer."

Sadly, we lost actor James Gandolfini, who played Tony Soprano for eight years, in 2013. He died at age 51.
