"Degrassi" coming to an end after 14 seasons
Graduation day is looming for "Degrassi," which will end its 14-season run on TeenNick later this summer.
The network announced Thursday that the teen-oriented series will conclude with a two-week final lap.
"Few producers are as blessed as we have been, working with so many talented and creative individuals at TeenNick for 14 seasons of 'Degrassi'; including 385 episodes and over 100 pieces of original short-form web content," said executive producer Stephen Stohn. "We thank all those at TeenNick who have worked so hard over the years to help us create a television series that changes with the times and continues to authentically connect and interact with the youth audience."
TeenNick's 12 final episodes will kick off July 20 with an hourlong special, followed by episodes airing weeknights through July 31. An hourlong finale will bring the series to a close.
In those last episodes, the high school's senior class prepares for its prom and graduation as the school year comes to an end.
Beginning in July, fans can visit TeenNick's website to sign the official 'Degrassi' virtual yearbook, which will feature cast headshots, show photos and candid shots from every season. They can also submit videos sharing their favorite 'Degrassi' moments and characters, and what the series means to them.
"Degrassi" is the offshoot of a dramatic Canadian TV franchise reaching back to 1979. The many youth-oriented issues it portrayed include that of a transgender teen. The series won a Peabody Award in 2010 for that.
For now, "Degrassi" airs weeknights at 9 p.m. ET.
