Four arrested over allegedly armed Florida murder suspect's escape

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Four people are under arrest for allegedly helping a murder suspect escape from a Florida courtroom but the suspect remains at large.

Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel said Sunday that Dayonte Resiles' 18-year-old girlfriend, LaQuay Stern, 22-year-old Winston Russell and two 17-year-old twin brothers are charged with escape and accessory after the fact to murder.

Israel said Stern and Russell waited in a getaway car while the twins were in the courtroom Friday when the 21-year-old Resiles somehow undid his shackles, leapt a barrier and fled. He said the twins coughed into a cell phone as Resiles fled to signal Stern and Russell that he was on the way.

Israel said Resiles was given a change of clothes and driven to an apartment. Israel said Resiles' current location is unknown.

Israel said Saturday his detectives have information that indicates Resiles has obtained a weapon.

He was sitting in the jury box awaiting a hearing on whether he should face the death penalty in his upcoming trial when he somehow escaped his shackles, jumped a courtroom barrier and ran past bailiffs. He shed his jail jumpsuit and ran outside in his shorts and a T-shirt. Israel said there is no video from outside the courthouse that shows how Resiles left the area.

Surveillance video recorded the moments after he ditched his jail jumpsuit, removed his handcuffs, and ran through a northside exit, CBS Miami reports.
