Darren Criss joining "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" on Broadway

A "Glee" star is going to be the next actor stepping into Hedwig's heels.

Darren Criss announced Tuesday that he's taking over the title role in Broadway's "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" starting this spring.

The actor broke the news in a video posted on his Facebook page:

His run in the show begins April 29 and continues through July 19.

"Hedwig" first hit the Broadway stage last year, with Neil Patrick Harris earning a Tony Award for his performance. After he departed the show, the East German transgender rocker has been played by Andrew Rannells, Michael C. Hall and currently John Cameron Mitchell, who first played Hedwig in the original Off-Broadway production and subsequent 2001 film.

Criss made his Broadway debut in 2012 in the revival of "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying."
