Dallas mother faces attempted murder charge for poisoning son, 4

DALLAS -- A mother whose mental health had worried friends and neighbors stands accused of poisoning her young son, reports CBS DFW.

Paw Eh, 31, faces an attempted capital murder charge, after a 911 call from a relative prompted first-responders to rush the 4-year-old boy to the hospital in critical condition.

Dallas police say Eh forced her son to ingest poison and tried unsuccessfully to do the same to two of her other children, 7 and 12.

A source told the station that the 7 and 12-year-olds ran to their grandmother's apartment in the same neighborhood when they realized what was going on.

Neighbor Sharl Nie told CBS DFW she believed Eh struggled with mental health issues and that she would sometimes accompany Eh to a doctor to translate from Eh's native Burmese to English. Eh's family, neighbors said, is originally from Myanmar.

"All she talked about was she couldn't sleep at night, or she was thinking about suicide," Nie said.

Nay Thaw, a friend of the family, also expressed concern for the woman's mental well-being but said, "She treated her children well, when I met her."

A spokesperson for Child Protective Services says a preliminary records check showed no history with Eh's family and no criminal records for Paw Eh showed up in a background search, according to the station.

Eh remained in jail Sunday night on $500,000 bond, according to the station's check of the Dallas County Jail log.

EDITOR'S NOTE: THIS STORY HAS BEEN CORRECTED TO REFLECT THE FACT THAT THE CHILD WHO WAS POISONED IS STILL ALIVE.
