"Creed" sequel in the works, says producer Irwin Winker

Oscar nomination or no Oscar nomination, plans are in the works for a sequel to "Creed" -- at least according to producer Irwin Winkler.

"Next couple of weeks, we'll start," Winkler said during a discussion for the Hollywood Reporter's Hollywood Masters interview series.

He didn't mention whether director Ryan Coogler or star Michael B. Jordan were already signed up for a sequel, but his comments did suggest that Sylvester Stallone's Rocky Balboa might not be that big of a part of a follow-up. "Basically it's about Creed [rather than Rocky]. We think that there is really a story to examine the life of Adonis Creed, and we're going ahead with it," he said.

Stallone was nominated for an Oscar for "Creed," but lost to Mark Rylance.
