Cowboys' "heart-stopping finish" saved my life, fan says
It may be too early to say Tony Romo's last second heroics Sunday saved the season for the Dallas Cowboys, but one fan said it did save his life, CBSDFW.com reports.
"It was a heart-stopper and I mean a heart-stopper," said Anthony Brown.
The 51-year-old Cowboys fan said when Romo tossed the game-winning touchdown to tight end Jason Witten against the New York Giants, he passed out.
"I hit the floor," he said. "And then the next thing I remember is I looked straight up at the TV and said these Cowboys and Jerry Jones are going to kill me this season."
Unable to make it on his own to the hospital the next morning, Brown flagged down a police officer who called an ambulance.
Doctors at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas quickly discovered Brown had an irregular heartbeat and installed a pacemaker.
Cardiologist Dr. Manish Assar, MD said he can't for certain say the excitement of the Cowboys game caused Brown to pass-out, but said had this die-hard fan not come in to seek medical treatment, he might not be alive today.
"I think for now on if there are any other moments that the Cowboys have in the future - as they always have - hopefully he won't pass out," said Dr. Assar.
It is often said fans live and die by the play their team, Brown, as he sat his hospital, said that has never seemed more true.
Brown credits the Cowboys for saving his life.
"I would have never found out if not for that heart-stopping finish."
