The Moorers were initially taken into custody in connection with the case Friday, Crimesider reported. They were charged with indecent exposure and obstruction of justice in the disappearance of Elvis, who was last seen in December.

Rhodes said Monday that additional evidence found at their home led investigators to bring the kidnapping and murder charges.

Attorneys said to be representing the couple did not immediately return messages Monday. Rhodes said they would be in court next during the week of March 17.

Federal, state and local police on Friday searched the Moorer’s home and seized two trucks, reports The State newspaper.

Elvis’ case has received widespread media attention and a large-scale volunteer effort was launched to search for her.
