Couple arrested on drug charges suspected of animal abuse
SANTA CLARITA, Calif. -- Police say a man and woman arrested on suspicion of selling narcotics are also accused of animal cruelty, reports CBS Los Angeles.
Authorities say the couple was investigated after deputies had stopped them behind a closed business, according to the station. Upon closer examination, police say they found narcotics -- as well as a young cat bound with electrical tape.
The cat had been "buried upside-down in a cat carrier" and was "meowing loudly in discomfort," police told CBS Los Angeles.
The deputies reportedly found the cat's individual paws were bound by electrical tape with both of the cat's front and rear legs bound together as well.
Police worked quickly to unbind the cat's paws, according to CBS Los Angeles.
The unidentified suspects, both in their 20s, allegedly told deputies that they bound the cat's paws to keep it from scratching.
The cat was taken to a local shelter for examination and to be put up for adoption, the station reported.
