Cops: Navy sailor killed wife in Virginia home

YORK COUNTY, Va. -- A Navy sailor is accused of fatally shooting his wife inside their Virginia home, reports CBS affiliate WTKR. The couple's young children, ages 4 and 5 months, were reportedly found there unharmed.

Petty Officer First Class Mark A. Freel, Jr., 26, is charged with second-degree murder and use of a firearm during the commission of a felony in the murder of his wife Katherine Freel, 27, according to the York-Poquoson Sheriff's Office. The incident reportedly happened Sunday at the family's home in York County in coastal Virginia.

Freel is stationed with Joint Task Force Civil Support at Fort Eustis as an intelligence specialist, according to Pilot Online.com

He was arrested on the scene without incident, police said. The children were reportedly placed in the custody of the victim's family.

Freel was reportedly being held without bond at the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail.
